317 (Early Series)    Ribbed baluster-shaped vases with wide wavy flaring lip.
:
Does this shape appear in other series?   Yes - Later Series 8 , 500 Series 510 and 'A' Series/Kerryl A28.
Early Series 319 is similar but has a plain lip not wavy, and a more distinct transition from the body to the throat.

Four size variants are recorded; s and inch suffixes 6, 8 and 10. Except for the smallest size every recorded example has a handle. For some reason the handles found on this shape exhibit more variety of style than any other shape.

317/8
       Height; 18.5 - 20 cm

Fancy handle shapes are found on 8 and 10 inch pieces of both 317 and 319.
One fancy-handle piece incised 317/10 appears to be a 319/10 shape and is catalogued there.

Occasionally an example appears with a plain round lip. Perhaps this piece should actually have been numbered 319s not 317s?
