41 (Early Series) TWO SHAPES
According to shape books this Early Series number was assigned twice, first to a shape probably in the PPP range and, after PPP was discontinued in 1934, to a Remued shape.
41 (Early Series) Tall baluster-shaped vase, small flared lip, with handle
The shape-book is annotated
"Same as 1/10 only handled". In Remued numbering however, versions of the same shape with and without handles almost always have the same number, and indeed for
Early Series 1/10 examples are recorded that do have handles.
Height; from shape book, about 27 cm
41 (Early Series; PPP) Two-handled amphora vase.
This shape is rare. Only a single example is recorded.
Does this shape appear in other series? No - (none recorded)
Two sizes are shown in the shape book, the smaller numbered just 41, the larger 41/8.
Base incised 41/12.
Height 31 cm, ie approximately 12 inches.
Not 10 inches as in the shape book, nor does it have a handle.
It is the only numbered example recorded and there is a question-mark over it because it differs in those two respects from the shape-book annotation. It seems likely that it is actually an example of
Early Series 1/12, erroneously 'corrected' to
41/12.
S&M Antiques & Collectables
Base incised 41 (no PPP stamp)
41/8
Height; from shape book, approx 22 cm.
