41 (Early Series) TWO SHAPES
: According to shape books this Early Series number was assigned twice, first to a shape probably in the PPP range and, after PPP was discontinued in 1934, to a Remued shape. No actual example of either shape is yet recorded.
41 (Early Series) Tall baluster-shaped vase, small flared lip, with handle
The shape-book is annotated
"Same as 1/10 only handled". Usually In Remued numbering however, versions of the same shape with and without handles have the same number, and indeed for
Early Series 1/10 examples are recorded with twig-handles.
Height; from shape book, about 27 cm
41 (Early Series; PPP) Two-handled amphora shaped vase.
This shape is rare. No example is recorded; it is known only from the shape-book sketch.
Does this shape appear in other series? No - (none recorded)
Dimensions; two sizes are shown, one about 17 cm high and the other about 21 cm..
Base incised 41/12.
Height 31 cm, ie approximately 12 inches not 10.
It lacks a handle.
This is the only numbered example recorded and there is a question-mark over it because it differs in some respects from the shape-book annotation. It may be actually an example of
Early Series 1/12, erroneously 'corrected' to
41/12.
